Do you want to become a beekeeper? Do you want to make your own honey and learn a hobby that is truly amazing? Then you won’t want to miss out on Urban Bee’s beginner beekeeping courses. Discover the wonder of the honeybee and explore the key fundamentals essential for sustainable beekeeping. Our experienced instructors will teach you how to safely and confidently start caring for your own bees.

With over 50 years of beekeeping experience between them and 20 years experience teaching ‘newbees’, master beekeepers Julia Common & Lindsay Dault are able to offer a truly exceptional beginner beekeeping course where you can be confident you came away with what you will need to know to get started! Learn more about your instructors here.

Rooted in a love for bees and the culture of the hive, our instructors offer a fresh approach to beekeeping. Our standard beginner course covers the core principles that support best practices in beekeeping. This course is intended for anyone interested in keeping bees, or who has already started keeping bees but really needs to understand the fundamentals, whether you plan to have 1 colony or 300 this puts you on the right path to success and honey abundance!

This would also make for a great refresher course if you have some beekeeping experience but are just a bit out of practice.

If weather conditions are good enough there will be an opportunity for hands-on experience with the bees! We will be able to provide protective clothing. Please note that as we cannot guarantee the weather will be good enough for field work, especially in early Spring, the in-class material is designed to be sufficient for getting started with bees and props will be used to help make sense of handling instructions.

Classes run from 9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday, including a break for lunch each day. Coffee and light snacks provided.
